Great Lakes water levels are rising like crazy this year; we may be in for a record-setting year. Of course, our beach is gone--we haven't seen it in a year, but we have hope that it may return some day. Unfortunately, when you live right next to the water, you have potential for crazy erosion problems, along with the beautiful views. When this giant hole opened up behind our breakwall, we had to bring in, quite literally, "tons of rocks," 140 tons to be exact, to fill in the gaping void. Thankfully, we had some help from friends and family, though Dad did most of them himself. Given the restricted landscape, each of those rocks had to be sent down a chute one by one--Papa says it "builds character," but I am not so sure about that! Here is hoping our house doesn't fall in the lake!
