At the end of March, as our 3 week closure was supposed to be wrapping up, we got the news that we would be continuing to learn from home for another few weeks...we also started wondering it we would ever go back at all, as the concern for the virus continued to grow. There are a lot of different opinions about what is the right way to handle everything, and there is a lot of unrest and difficulty in the world, per mom and dad. However, at our house, we are doing pretty good. We have some ups and downs with schooling from home, but all in all, we kind of like some of it. We are spending more time together as a family, and we have more time at home, more meals together, and more intentional, socially-distant adventures to try to keep our spirits up.
Sam is practicing riding his bike; Dad took us fishing; we have been doing lots of art work and finding online resources to keep us entertained and occupied.
So many companies are offering free things to students right now--subscriptions to online learning games, free audiobooks, virtual art classes, etc. It is nice to see the efforts to support people in this unprecedented time. However, mom and dad often talk about the downsides of widespread virtual interactions. Many people are not kind to others in their interactions on social media, and some people are spreading falsehoods and conspiracies about the choices our leaders are making. In certain places of the world and now in our country, a lot of people are dying, but there are also a lot of people who don't get very sick at all. Some people think that we should just power through and get through the worst of it as quickly as possible, and many people think we should do our best to slow the spread and "flatten the curve." Wearing a mask has become politically divisive and some of the leadership in our county worsens the divide instead of trying to bring people together. This is pretty hard, but we will carry on and make the best, trying to protect our family and those around us.
